Kalispell History
In 1809, an explorer named David Thompson led a small party into the valley containing Flathead Lake. Amazed at the fertile and lush surroundings, settlers were soon to follow his route and the early foundations of a community began to form.
In 1891, the Great Northern Railroad announced plans to bring a rail line right through the valley. A tremendous land rush ensued, and plots of land were sold by the hundreds, firmly establishing Kalispell as a town with a future. Businesses began to spring up and a brisk commercial trade was soon established.
